Абстракт:
През последните две дестилетия се заостри интгересът към ванадия като един от есенциалните микроелементи за човека. Наред с общо биологичната му значимост все повече се опознава ролята му във въглехидратния метаболизъм.

Abstract:
Over the last two decades, there is a great surge of interest in vanadium as one of the microelements having an essential practical bearing on humans. Along with its general biological implications, there is an ever increasing awareness of the role it plays in carbohydrate metabolism. It is the purpose of the work to evaluate the effect of vanadium ions on intracellular content of calcium ions, taken to be secondary mediators of insulin activity. Experiments are conducted on rat gastric smooth muscles using modulators of calcium ion channels. As shown by the obtained results, vanadium ions enhance calcium influx, with efflux re duction aganst the background of vanadium. The elevated calcium level in the cell may be interpreted as the underlying cause of nonreceptor insulinomimetic effect.
Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, vanadium, calcium channels.
